What are the types of thin wall bearings ?

08-23, 2023 / in News / by PRS

Thin-wall bearings, also known as slim bearings or thin-section bearings, are specialized types of bearings designed to have a small cross-sectional profile relative to their bore diameter. They are often used in applications where space is limited or where weight reduction is crucial. Thin-wall bearings are commonly found in robotics, aerospace, medical equipment, and industrial machinery.

Thin-wall bearings types

Deep Groove Ball Bearings

These are the most common type of thin-wall bearings. They have a simple design consisting of an outer ring, an inner ring, and a set of balls that roll between the rings. Deep groove ball bearings can handle both radial and axial loads and are suitable for a wide range of applications.

Angular Contact Ball Bearings

These bearings are designed to handle both radial and axial loads in a particular direction. They have raceways in the inner and outer rings that are offset to allow the bearings to handle axial loads in addition to radial loads.

Four-Point Contact Ball Bearings

This type of bearing is designed to handle radial, axial, and moment loads. They have four points of contact between the balls and the raceways, allowing them to handle more complex loading conditions.

Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Thin-section cylindrical roller bearings are designed to handle high radial loads. They have cylindrical rollers as rolling elements and can also handle some axial loads.

Tapered Roller Bearings

These bearings can handle both radial and axial loads. They consist of tapered rollers and are often used in pairs or sets to handle combined loads.

Crossed Roller Bearings

Crossed roller bearings have cylindrical rollers arranged in a crossed pattern between the inner and outer rings. They are known for their high rigidity and accuracy and are often used in precision applications such as machine tools and robotics.

Thin-Section Thrust Bearings

These bearings are designed to handle axial loads and have a small cross-sectional profile. They are commonly used in applications where axial space is limited.

Thin-Wall Linear Bearings

Linear motion bearings with a thin-wall design are used in applications where compactness is important, such as linear guides for limited-space environments.

It's important to note that the design and dimensions of thin-wall bearings can vary based on the manufacturer and specific application requirements. When selecting a thin-wall bearing for a particular application, factors such as load capacity, speed, precision, and environmental conditions should be carefully considered. Always refer to the manufacturer's specifications and guidelines to ensure proper selection and usage of thin-wall bearings.
